Condominium Insurance

Florida law mandates a minimum standard of coverage that your condominium association must provide. The association policy covers all collective property listed in the policy, including the structure itself and any appliances that come with it. Examine your association’s policy to learn what it covers.

It is now necessary for each owner of a condominium unit in the State of Florida to provide proof of homeowner’s insurance including “loss assessment” coverage in the amount of $2,000 and name the association as an additional named insured on the “certificate of coverage” submitted to the condominium association as proof of coverage.

It is important that you know your own responsibilities and those of your condominium association. The policy you buy as a condominium owner covers items in the unit that are your responsibility. In addition to personal possessions like clothing and furniture, this also will typically include the unit’s paint or wall paper, window treatments and carpets or other floor coverings. This is known as “covering everything from the paint in” for your unit.
